At the Museum General Meeting, the Mary Rice Award was presented to Jan Baweja for 24 years of service in the Garden Club.

Brookside Garden Tour, Oct 22
10 members of the Garden Club met on a chilly morning to have a tour by one of the gardeners of the Park. She explained the new "Parking Garden" at the Visitors Center, which has been planted with many native trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials. There is also a new inclined entrance to the ponds, new retaining walls, seating area and bus parking area.

We also wandered through the garden admiring the remnants of fall flowers, learning about new plans for the garden and the upcoming Chrysanthemum.


Spooky Workshop, Oct 23
While wearing spooky costumes and snacking on goulish food, 15  hard working gremlins (garden club members and friends) made bows galore for the Greens Sale.

25th Anniversary Garden Party September 11, 2016

A beautiful sunny day and gorgeous courtyard maintained by the Garden Club marked the occasion of the 25th Anniversary Garden Party. With 55 past and current members attending, we enjoyed a light luncheon and speeches by current co-president Sunny Banvard, past president Amy Cohen (with a long list of the Garden Club's accomplishments) and co-chairmen of the event, Kathy Gaskill and Penny Sidell.  We even had a dcorated hat contest, with the prize going to Anne Willson.

Garden Club at Sandy Spring Museum Celebrates 25 Years of Gardening Together

Sandy Spring, MD - August 2016 In 1991, five Sandy Spring-area residents, led by Mary Rice, founded the Sandy Spring Museum Garden Club. The club is dedicated to generating interests in gardening and visibility for the Museum through grounds beautification, community building, education and the preservation of history and natural resources with the spirit of volunteerism. This year the Sandy Spring Museum Garden Club celebrates it's 25th year of gardening together. They will be  celebrating with a private reception on September 11th to include the dedication of a new beautification project at the Museum, featuring American Boxwoods and design donation by Bridge Landscape Design. The club's contributions to the museum over the years include creating and maintaining the meticulously-designed courtyard, the grand front entrance and many financial contributions that have enabled the museum to grow.   Sunny Banvard, President of the Garden Club, says, "What I value about   Sandy Spring Museum's Garden Club (SSMGC) is it provides a unique venue to not only learn about plants and gardening techniques, but also the opportunity to make beautiful creations from natural materials, share in field trips to interesting destinations, and enhance Sandy Spring Museum with our activities, all in the company of convivial people who are very willing to share their knowledge and inspire creativity in others." Executive Director of the museum, Allison Weiss adds, "The Garden Club is the museum's longest-standing club. They do so much to promote the love of gardening, floral design, and civic and environmental responsibility. They create valuable programs our members can participate in throughout the year. We have 7 beautiful acres and the Garden Club helps our gardens grow, and our museum prosper."   Club membership is open to all museum members. Currently there are 121 active members. Activities include learning (educational) projects and workshops, day trips, garden tours and the plant sale and fairy garden project at the annual Strawberry Festival.   The club also creates seasonal holiday greenery that can be found in homes across the region. Strawberry Festival Thank You

Thank you to everyone who helped at the Strawberry Festival on Saturday. From set-up to clean-up and throughout the hot and humid day, we had a great turn-out of helpers and customers. Our display included a wonderful collection of plant donations and large selection of vegetables which Andrea grew at Sherwood. We also helped 50 young gardeners and adults make and take Fairy Gardens. A big thank you to Sunny for stepping up to the task of managing the event which Andrea had set into place.
