2015 Garden Tour...Be Inspired

Everyone seemed to really “be Inspired” by the 2015 Sandy Spring Museum Garden Tour. All of the gardens were simply spectacular. We are very grateful to the garden owners that welcomed us. The Ex Libris Ensemble was a delightful treat as we enjoyed our delicious box lunches. It was a wonderful to view the Plein Air Artist’s impressions of the gardens while we partook of wine and hors d’oeuvres at the “Wine in the Garden.”  Even the weather cooperated until the very end.
Organizing an event as special as the Garden Tour takes many volunteers. As we started counting everyone, we easily reached over 75 volunteers. We couldn’t possibly mention them all by name and we surely would miss someone. We appreciate all those that helped.
There are 3 people that we want to mention. The first two are Kathy Gaskill and Penny Sidell who started working on the tour last summer. They spent countless hours driving around the community selecting the gardens and working with the garden owners. We would also like to thank Kathy for inviting us into her home and garden for the lovely “Wine in the Garden.” Finally, we want to thank Dee Hawkins our 2015 Garden Tour Chair. She worked tireless hours coordinating the amazing tour.  Without her dedication and hard work, we could not have had such a spectacular event.

April 2015 General Meeting - Courtyard Garden Social and Seed and Plant Exchange

Sunday was an absolutely beautiful day. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. The Courtyard Garden is looking beautiful and we made many wonderful decorations for the Strawberry Festival Fairy Gardens. Thanks to all that came out to help.

We all enjoyed the Seed and Plant Exchange and everyone went home with something.

Special thanks to Chelsea Soneira and Mary Dominique for coordinating the Gardening Social and General Meeting. We appreciate the insights that Andrea shared with us on seeds and seed exchanges. Finally we want to recognize our marvelous Refreshment Committee, Dayna Tucker and Jody Pearce.

Courtyard Gardening Social      Plant and Seed Swap

Beat those winter blues and join the Garden Club as we celebrate the return of the growing season by

getting our hands dirty! There is a fun job for everyone at our Courtyard Gardening Social and Plant

Swap. Bring your gardening gloves, dress for dirt , and dig in as we clean and divide, or take an indoor

role making labels, getting crafty or more! Get ready to add something special to your own garden, too,

as we will cap off our afternoon with a plant and seed swap. Please bring a plant and/or seeds for the

swap and a bag to carry home cutting from our garden cleanup! To help with planning, please RSVP to

Chelsea.Soneira@gmail.com by April 1 and note what kind of gardening role you want for the day.

February General meeting and Monarch Butterfly Program

Sandy Spring Museum Garden Club

General Meeting and Program – February 8

Bring back the butterflies! Join the Garden Club 3-5pm (note time change due to the Winter Farmer’s Market open from 10-2pm at the museum) for an in-depth presentation on Creating Monarch Waystations from renowned naturalist and conservation specialist, Denise Gibbs.  Learn about the state of various species of butterflies and the basics of butterfly gardening.  To get a jump on the spring, we will launch our own conservation project by propagating the native milkweeds that are essential to the monarch life cycle.
